Anti-ragging on an existing DOL starter

The Deragger II® is simple to integrate into existing starter sections. In this entry we will be demonstrating the integration of the Deragger II® into DOL starters. This will demonstrate how you can get anti ragging the easy way. Our slimline device (35mm) is perfect when space is not a premium and with its patented clean technology, is the perfect solution for this type of problem.

The device takes a run signal to start. This is taken from the A1-A2 coil of the existing line contactor. Remove the wires from the existing contactor and put them in the common and Input 1 on the Deragger II®. A volt free contact from the reset push button is wired into Input 3.

The Deragger II®’s patented anti ragging technology relies on a reversing contactor to assist with the cleaning operation of three phase pumps. This should, ideally be mounted next to the existing line contactor. We recommend Schneider contactors due to the slim profile.

The contactors are connected as shown below remembering to feed the cables through the power module:

Next the overload is removed and the existing fault wires (N/O, N/C) are wire into output 3 and 4 of the Deragger II®. This is how to interface the unit with the panel’s trip circuitry and any telemetry that may be present.

The unit is now installed and ready to commission.

Deragger II® – Patented Technology

New Patent Announcement: Innovative Waste Water Pump solution that eliminates pump blockages, significantly reduces energy usage and prevents environmental incidents is introduced by Clearwater Controls Ltd, a division of the ID Systems Group of Companies.

Clearwater Controls announced today that the UK Patent and Trademark Office has granted to the group a UK Patent No. GB2487623B covering critical aspects of the unique anti-ragging system deployed in the Deragger II® product. The Deragger II® is a low voltage electric pump management system that presents cutting edge technology. Being modular its functionalities can be extended, making it a versatile product and prepared for several applications.

The Deragger II® is designed for simplistic integration into existing starter sections. Its small footprint at just 35mm x 96mm x 119 mm, makes it the ideal retro fit solution for small and medium sized pumping stations. The Deragger II® replaces the existing motor protection device with the main functionality of real time pump blockage prevention. It is suitable for Direct on Line, Star/Delta, Soft Starts or as an addition to VSD/VFD and has a protection range of 0 to 840A.

At the commissioning stage the Deragger II® is matched to the existing pumps which means that the device does not require any further operator input or adjustment.

The Deragger II® has proven to reduce energy consumption on pumps by around 15%. This is due to the pump running a clean impeller at all times. This coupled to the cost reduction and elimination of manual intervention to clear pump blockages, the return on investment is very quick with typical payback in weeks.

The Deragger II® can be programmed with additional applications including:

  • Wet Well clean cycle
  • Auto reset
  • Remote reset
  • Odour Control
  • Batch Pumping
  • Dry run protection

According to Graham McIvor, Technical Director at Clearwater, “the Deragger II® provides a simplistic, low cost, minimal interruption solution to a worldwide waste water industry problem that can be fitted and commissioned in less than a day”.
