Anti-ragging technology delivers results at Nigg WwTP

Kelda Water Services (Grampian) have made substantial cost savings at their Nigg Wastewater Treatment Plant, thanks to the installation of two Deragger IIs from Clearwater Controls. This innovative yet affordable technology works in real time to ensure pumps run constantly clean impellers, thus eradicating the costly and time-consuming necessity of manually lifting them to clear blockages.

Prior to installation of the Deragger II wastewater pump management system on a tanker dump tank, two 5.2 kW Hydrostal DOL transfer pumps at Nigg were blocking three or more times daily. This resulted in large fines whenever tankers were held up by more than thirty minutes.

Since the installation of the Deragger IIs in October 2013, Nigg has reported only one blockage (on a single pump) – caused by no less than a curtain-like material.

Noel Gallagher, Project Engineer at Kelda Water Services (Grampian), said, “We’ve had no problems since installing the Deraggers at Nigg. They are doing their job and improving the efficiency of the plant.”
