Clearwater wins major environment awards

Clearwater Controls today won a major environmental award, yet another accolade for our DERAGGER technology and how it can prevent blockages, reduce energy consumption and reduce environmental damage from sewage spillages.

The VIBES Awards are now in their 19th year, run in collaboration by SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency), Scottish Water, Scottish Enterprise, Energy Saving Trust and many others.

Clearwater Controls beat strong competition in the Environmental Product or Service category, and here are Simon and Graham with the amazing trophy!

More information about the impact our DERAGGER can have, can be found in the recent WRc independent study available at: https://clearwatercontrols.co.uk/wrcreport/

March of the Wet Wipes, solving the problem!

WRc research on success of DERAGGER could prove critical as BBC Breakfast news and Radio 4 (Costing the Earth) highlight impact of wet wipes on sewage network.

The BBC reported that of the ‘flushable’ wipes tested in the UK to-date, not one has passed the industry tests.  Here at Clearwater, we support the “3 P’s” approach, however this has been going on for years, and no matter how much is done to educate the public some people are always going to flush things they shouldn’t down the toilet – non-flushable wipes, sanitary products or other items.  In fact, another research study recently announced says 39% of women admit flushing things they shouldn’t!

Luckily our DERAGGER doesn’t discriminate, and it is proven to keep pumps running clean.  It’s therefore the low cost way to prevent pump blockages which cause back-ups and spills, which in turn cause such distress to customers and environmental damage.  And it’s proven to reduce energy consumption and extend asset life as well!

Radio 4’s Costing the Earth programme included the below quote:

Andrew Drinkwater, WRc: “The big problem really is that the majority of sewage flooding…is caused because the sewer or pumping station has got blocked because somebody has put something down that is inappropriate…a baby wipe or a wet wipe.

Furthermore, the majority of occasions when a watercourse get polluted with sewage because a sewer has overflowed or a pumping station has got stopped working, again is because somebody has flushed something down the toilet…which has blocked the sewer or caused the pump to jam.”

WRc Product Approval and Certification

We are delighted that WRc (Water Research Centre) has now officially approved and certified both the DERAGGER+ (formerly known as the DERAGGER II) and the DERAGGER PRO.

This full and robust accreditation process studied all aspects of quality, supply chain, test processes etc., and the results from the recent WRc study (see more here) were also reviewed.  We believe our products are some of the very first electronic devices to go through this process and to receive WRc accreditation.

See Certificates and Schedules below for both,
